Our Mission

The Monticello Housing Authority's mission is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all.

What We Do

Established in 1962, Monticello Housing Authority (MHA) provides affordable housing opportunities to serve residents of the City of Monticello and Jasper County in Georgia. Governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, MHA offers housing for low-income individuals, families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Housing at MHA is provided through the Public Housing Program. MHA does not participate in the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program, previously known as the Section 8 Program, and is not equipped to accommodate Emergency Housing. For a list of other housing resources available in Georgia, please click here to visit the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Additionally, MHA offers many resident opportunities, including Back-to-School bashes, Christmas Decoration events, Housing Seminars, and October Festivals!

Public Housing

The Public Housing Program at MHA is income-based, and the eligibility guidelines are set by HUD. In the community, MHA administers 58 Public Housing units at three properties that are decent, safe, and in sanitary condition! MHA complies with the requirements of applicable building codes, housing codes, and the HUD regulations. To apply for the Public Housing Program at MHA, please stop by our office for a paper application or click here to apply online. Domestic Violence Protections

The Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (VAWA 2013) expands housing protections for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Changes under VAWA 2013 include extending protections to survivors of sexual assault; allowing survivors who remain in the unit to establish eligibility or find new housing when a lease is bifurcated; providing survivors with emergency transfers; and additional notification to applicants and tenants of housing rights under VAWA. While these changes substantially extend VAWA's coverage to include most affordable housing programs, they provide no protection to tenants in private market-rate housing but do apply to tenants with vouchers in private market-housing.

MHA will provide all protection under VAWA 2013 to program participants and family members of program participants who are victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking from being evicted or terminated from housing assistance based on acts of such violence against them.
